P for Party
01.26.2010 –
Last week was my birthday, an event that usually passes by without a lot of hoopla. This year, though, my birthday coincided with Lauren’s moving out, a combination of lifetime events that served to remind us we never had that housewarming party last summer. We decided it would be unacceptable for two people who earn their living artistically to throw a bash without an appropriately imaginative theme, and because neither of us are particular practical people we chose purple. We literally didn’t have a single object or item of clothing that was any shade of violet. But we sent the invitation after a couple of glasses of wine on a Tuesday night, and the thus the Purple Party was born. (And henceforth we spent a lot of time doing reconnaissance missions at every Goodwill in the Denver metro area).
I have always loved a photo booth done well, and because Lauren’s room would be vacated before the party it seemed obvious that her room should be turned into one. Logistically and technically speaking there are a lot of things I would change about this the second time around. I didn’t want to man the booth for the entire night (also, seems to me a cardinal rule of a good photo booth is privacy) so we left our boozy friends with a remote. The downside to this was that the camera got shifted every now and again, and at one point the shutter speed got turned way up and about 500 photos were lost. (I have had a lot of fun imagining the kind of debauchery those photos contained, which I may or may not have been party to). Also, lights got shifted which means some of the photos are much darker than I’d have liked, photographically speaking.
All of that mumbo jumbo aside, the results are amazing. Because most of the photos are in some way inappropriate, and because I like most of these people and would like to remain friends with them I am limiting what I put on the blog to the more prudent shots of me + friends whom I’m assuming won’t mind. Enjoy :)
