All I Want For Christmas

1. A white Christmas (which is not only looking possible, but probable).

2. A complete and total break from technology.  I’m turning my phone off, not bringing my laptop with me. Even the camera is questionable. I need to get back to basics for a little while.

3. Some high quality family time.  I think it’s safe to say I am on the other side of the hate-your-family stage everyone goes through at some point, a stage that can last anywhere from a solitary adolescent year to an entire lifetime.  I’d like to think I’m in a place where I can fully appreciate my family, lunacy and all.

Roux’s list is pretty much the same as mine, only it probably includes a very polite request to spend the next four days being a dog instead of a stand-in Christmas tree.

Happy, happy holidays to all of you.

Bookworm

Legend has it I loved books long before I could read them.  I am a reader too, but I love books regardless of what’s inside of them. I even relish the way they smell; new books, old books, doesn’t matter. So I guess it’s no surprise that I love designing books for my clients as much as I do.  Plus, there is something so wonderful about seeing your work out of the screen, in real space, tangible.

Kathy + Sam’s book just arrived and it’s lovely.

Here is the book in its entirety:

Embry

I’ve known Camiece + DJ for years.  I remember what they were like in high school, so it was kind of amazing to spend some time with their son.  It seems like the older I get the faster the years slip by, which can be totally terrifying but also fabulously exciting.  This is one of those times when it’s thrilling.  I loved seeing how Camiece + DJ have grown up, grown into themselves, grown into being parents.

Also, how cool is the name Embry?!  (They got the idea from the actor Ethan Embry).

Toko + Kaden : 2009

I have been fortunate enough to have a lot of repeat clients from last year’s holiday season and have really loved watching the kiddos (both human + canine) growing up.  It has made me realize what an absolute privilege it is to capture people’s lives.

This is one of those repeat sessions. I am having a hard time getting over how much bigger Kaden is.  Toko, on the other hand, is just her same wonderful self.  She responds to the command, “kiss the baby,” which just might be one of my very favorite dog tricks.

Tommy : 2009

Tommy is a Clumber Spaniel, a breed I’d never heard of before our puppy session last year.  I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that Tommy is the downiest dog I’ve ever touched.  He’d make a helluva foot warmer.

I always love shooting Tommy, and this year was no exception.
