I liken coming home after four days in Vegas to resurfacing from an overstimulating underworld.  My good friend Justin, who gets credit for convincing me to attend WPPI in the first place, was bang on when he told me it would change my life and my business.  I have so much to share from that experience, but I’m playing a frantic game of catch up so I’ll give myself a few days to let it ruminate before I try to compile all that inspiration and knowledge into a singular blog post.

In the meantime, here is the rest of Lily’s session.  I, for one, am totally infatuated with her smooshy little face.

This shot kills me:

Wrapping up some editing before I head to WPPI @ Vegas tomorrow. Not only have I never really done Vegas, but I’ve also never been to anything even remotely resembling a photography workshop/class/gathering.  To say I’m excited would be a severe understatement.

I’m finishing editing a session with the lovely Lily + her parents and thought I’d share this quick one:

Regular blogging will resume midweek next week…

Ruby

This is Ruby, a Boxer (clearly), whose family is moving to Chicago (probably as we speak).  This session was a gift to Ruby + her parents, who so obviously adore her.  She participated in both their wedding and their reception last year, which sounds like a pretty good plan to me.  I think any party is better with a dog present.  Actually, while we were in Scotland we saw several people on different occasions bring their dogs into pubs at night. No one batted an eye and the dogs either visited with other patrons or just lay quietly at their owner’s feet…So probably any bar would be better with a dog, too.

Pretty Ruby:

I love this moment–treat midair and Ruby so worried that she might miss it.

Kinley is currently at the vet’s office being spayed, microchipped and having surgery to remove a strange growth on her foot, poor thing.  I’m trying to keep myself busy so I don’t spend all day long worrying about her; I worry WAY too much. Especially about my dogs.  We will probably have a pretty quiet week around here while she recuperates.

Grommit

Meet Grommit.

Grommit, as a recent DNA test revealed, is part American Bulldog, part Boxer.  Andy found him on Facebook (he is the first Facebook dog I’ve ever photographed).  His original owners were leaving the country and looking to find him a new home.  Andy had recently lost a dog, and was looking for another dog to share his life with.  Enter Grommit.  Audrey (Andy’s fiance) agrees that Grommit somehow suits him better than any other name could, and I love it because I’ve long been a fan of Wallace + Grommit.  Grommit has seriously expressive eyes that are startlingly human-like, in a very good way.  Actually, Grommit’s whole presence is somehow human-like; he makes his wishes known, and yet somehow seamlessly joins the group dynamic.  His famous Grommit look is the one in the photo above; that I-see-what-you’re-doing-over-there, peering out of the corner of his eyes look.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Lindsay + Jake

I first met Lindsay at the dog park, which was great because then when she asked me to do her + Jake’s engagement photos, I felt like I sort of already knew what I was getting myself into. I hadn’t met Jake, but I was pretty sure that Lindsay was the laid back type, which is definitely my style. Jake was immediately likable too, and that likability factor was multiplied by how into each other they were. They’re one of those couples you only have to know for five minutes to know that they’re 100% meant to be.

We did the shoot at Riverfront Park, downtown Denver, which is an awesome place to shoot. It was an absolutely perfect fall day with brilliant sunshine. It’s a well-known doggie mecca and after I finished the shoot with Jake + Lindsay I came across this teeny 11-week-old Boxer puppy named Roxy. I couldn’t resist pulling the camera out for a couple shots. (I’m sure someone out there has a logical explanation for this, but Boxer puppies are WAY smaller than other puppies, which is crazy considering they grow up to be about the same size as my dog… I swear, Roux was never this small).
