memphis & co

More from my session with Georgia, Charlie, + Memphis, the 8-week-old Dogue de Bordeaux.  Every member of this family was such a pleasure to be around and nothing short of delightful to shoot.

friday funday

Hey, Denverites!  Tomorrow night is the Big Dogs Huge Paws book release & gallery show @ the Pirate gallery.  It benefits a great cause.  And there will be wine.

Yesterday Sam + I attempted to defeat gravity and make strawberries float.  It kind of worked.

Happy Friday everyone, and if you live in Denver try to make it out tomorrow night!

chelsi

Overdue shots from a day out with the dazzling Chelsi. We drove through some of the sketchier parts of Denver, Chelsi changing outfits in the backseat of her car and traipsing through abandoned houses, in amongst litter and on top of tractors.  She was such a sport, and was definitely a hit with every homeless bum we encountered.

maddie

Amy lives in Paris and her little dog, Maddie, once escaped the jaws of a coyote.  So I think they’re both pretty badass.  Also, they both have a flair for adventure which is a quality that jives pretty well with me, especially when I have a camera in my hot little hands.

I’ve been wanting to sneak a dog into the famous Union Station for ages.  It’s the closest thing we have to history out here in the West, this huge ornate train station that has become a legendary Denver landmark.  The building is plastered with NO DOGS ALLOWED wallpaper and there is a security guard all the time whose job it is to be especially alert for photographers trying to sneak doggie subjects inside.  I explained all of this to Amy and because she has a taste for danger she was up for the sneak-and-shoot plan.  In stilettos.  Extra points for that.

And then she proceeded to trek all over LoDo in those heels, heels I wouldn’t be able to maneuver more than two, three steps max.  Those heels are just one of the many reasons this shoot is a new favorite.

Love this last shot of the little tennis ball fiend:

ideal woman

The variety of my shoots the last couple weeks has been totally invigorating.  Since WPPI I have been so totally amped about shooting I didn’t think twice when Allie asked me if I was interested in doing a shoot for her new jewelry line.  Allie is a fabulous artist whose new show opens this friday. If you are local to Denver stop by – it’s going to be a good time. [6-9pm @ the Hinterland at 3254 Walnut Street in the RiNo Art District].

Here’s a quick synopsis of Allie’s work from her site:

Ideal Woman: Necklace reflects Allie Pohl’s belief that society is obsessed with the image of “the perfect woman.” The necklace demonstrates our culture’s desire to emulate a look that seems naturally impossible to attain. Allie’s artistic objective is to critique cultural trends that she finds impractical or destructive to the female.”

This was my first crack at fashion photography, and it totally left me wanting more.  The model is the infinitely lovely Audrey Powell.  Also, the ever-stylish Renee gets mad credit for hair + outfit input, detangling wads of necklaces for hours on end and generally keeping us all on track.  And of course, Allie is the brains behind the gig.

We originally planned to do a studio shoot only, but the light on my roof was so fabulous right when we were getting started that we all maneuvered our way up there for a quick fifteen minutes, fifteen minutes that resulted in some of my favorite shots of the evening.

And here’s a selection of the studio shots:

And you had to know this was coming…
