793

Yesterday marked Roux’s third birthday.  It’s been 3 years and 1 day since she was born.  And it’s been 2 years, 2 months and 2 days since I picked her up in Amarillo, Texas.  Never once during those years and months and days have I regretted sharing my life or my paycheck or my bed with that dog.  Not when she was small and demanded so much attention, or when she used to find it acceptable to chew on furniture, or when she used to regularly dislocate my shoulder when she was hot on the tail of a squirrel.  Not even when my life was in complete upheaval and I didn’t know where I was going to live and Roux and I were like vagabonds, couch surfing at night and driving to photo shoots during the day. Not even even when finding a place that would allow a dog was a huge pain in the ass.  Not even now, when I am reaping the joys of being single and 26, when sometimes having a dog at home means leaving killer parties to feed her and let her out.

Every day for 793 days I have been humbly grateful that Roux is my roommate, officemate, running partner, travel companion, muse — grateful, in short, that this dog is my dog.

memphis & co

More from my session with Georgia, Charlie, + Memphis, the 8-week-old Dogue de Bordeaux.  Every member of this family was such a pleasure to be around and nothing short of delightful to shoot.

superlatives

I love Georgia + Charlie.  Maybe the most, because look at them.  They are the best in front of the camera.

So much more goodness from this session will be blogged soon, including the most delicious puppy.

bailey, again

The minute I sent Jenn the images from our first session with Bailey she scheduled another session for this summer when her parents would be in town.  Both of her parents were lovely, but I sort of fell in love with her dad.  It happened right at the beginning, when I introduced myself and he smiled a big smile and said in return, “I’m Ahtie.”  And I thought it was some kind of unusual name, something foreign, maybe?  I run into people with all kinds of names and backgrounds and it seemed plausible.  So I was calling him Ahtie, hoping I was pronouncing it correctly, wondering how it was spelled when Jenn informed me that it was ARtie, short for Arthur, and explained that nobody in this state has been able to decipher Artie’s thick Jersey accent so I shouldn’t feel bad.

So I was kind of enamored with Artie and his accent, and I was having a good time shooting because Bailey never disappoints, but when I got Artie in the frame with that dog I really fell in love with the two of them from the other side of my camera.  How wonderful are they together?
