I’ve known Erin, a talented writer since I interned for a magazine in California years ago.  She’s been a faithful blog reader and avid supporter of my photography work and has said if I’m ever in San Fransisco that she wanted to do a shoot.  A few weeks ago I was there for a wedding, so we took the opportunity to do a shoot with her Jack Russells, Stella + Joey and her horse, Kermit.  The location in the hills outside the city was gorgeous, so gorgeous I didn’t mind the spitting rain or occasional cloud cover. This was one of those shoots that was so much fun it didn’t for a second feel like work.

Bonjour, Merci

I’m currently staying in a little town called Mandelieu La Napoule (just south of Cannes) in the Côte d’Azur (Southern France).  I took the above photo as we were landing, so it gives you a pretty good idea what the landscape is like here: beachy, sunny, and very, very blue.  I cannot get over the shades of indigo and turquoise of this ocean; they are simply  jaw dropping.  I am staying with a very kind family friend (who happens to have an extraordinarily fast internet connection), and have been spending the last couple days trying to see as much as humanely possible.  I finally got a good long dose of beach time this afternoon, at a beach that allowed dogs no less.  I encountered this little fella playing a game of fetch-the-sandal.  (And no, I do not know what his name is.  My grasp of the French language is minimal at best, and consists of only the most basic vocabulary such as merci and bonjour).

I also walked by this woman who so kindly shared her beach chair with her dog and thought it too sweet a moment to pass up.

I have no idea what the future has in store for me, internet-wise, but I will try to post every now and again.  Also, are my photos super dark?  You can tell me if they are too dark, really.  I’m not used to editing photos on my laptop and I have a sneaking suspicion they’re just a tad darker than usual.

Ciao!

Lola & Lily

Meet Lily (left) and Lola (right), rescue Jack Russell Terriers that belong to my friend, client, ex-coworker, Rebecca (and her partner, Gregg).  Rebecca & Gregg recently moved into a new home that is to die for.  It’s spacious, light-filled, homey, elegant.  It was wholly charming, a great place to shoot. (The dogs were pretty fabulous subjects, too).

I think it’s fair to say Lola has the more tradition good looks with her bright eyes and perky demeanor.

But it’s Lily that I had the most fun with.  Nicknamed Silly Lily, she is endlessly entertaining and decidedly adorable.  Lily has her own chair in the kitchen where she likes to observe what’s happening at counter-level.  It’s also where she sits for her afternoon popcorn snack.

See what I mean?  She is utterly irresistible.

This next shot makes me smile every time I look at it.  Even funnier than the fact she is sitting on the chair like she’s riding a pony is the way she does it, like she misguidedly thinks this is a perfectly normal way for a dog to sit on a chair.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day!
