At first I took a hiatus from the original ROUXBY BLOG to travel, and transferred my blogging and photo-taking energy to the Crazy Bitches blog. When my life resumed some semblance of normality in December I thought about picking up the ol’ Rouxby Blog, but was so inundated with shooting and placing orders for the holidays that it didn’t seem reasonable. Then, because I am a practiced procrastinator, I decided I’d wait until the much-needed and much-desired new website and blog were launched. And so now, finally, after a six month break from blogging on Rouxby I am back and intending to blog here regularly.
It’s impossible to catch up on everything, but there are a few things the Rouxby reader ought to know: 1) I am back in Denver, and 2) I am getting married this summer. So then, back to the business of regular blogging and photographing.
At the end of January I partnered up another Denver photographer, Ali Vagnini, the fabulous hair stylista, Mia, and makeup artist, Jessica, to put on a two day boudoir event. Having never done something quite like this we had no idea what to expect, but it was a smashing success. The event took place in a brightly-painted retro-outfitted Victorian, we had as many mimosas as we could drink, 50s tunes on the radio, a group of girls that far exceeded my wildest expectations, and no shortage of creativity.
Since the event I’ve thought a lot about women, the way we view our bodies, and why. There was such an astounding variety of women who participated in this event: they ranged in age from 20 to 60; some had kids, some didn’t; some were single and some were married; some had done a boudoir photo shoot before, but most hadn’t. But no matter who the woman was one thing was a constant–every single woman there had an inherent, deeply natural beauty. Even if some of them didn’t know it at first. I have always believed we are all beautiful, every last one of us, but now I know it.
A few of the girls were happy to have their images on this blog and in the spirit of the camaraderie and support that everyone felt that day, here are a few of those photographs.
A very sincere to every woman who made the event possible (and to Todd and Adam for saving the day by babysitting).
The next boudoir event is in the works and will likely be at the end of April. If you want to be contacted with those details email me and I’ll make sure you’re on the list.
