My best friend’s wedding.
I have two best friends. My best friend, Lauren, eloped, but we did some portraits of her wearing her wedding dress about a year after that as a gift to her husband. There is one in particular that I treasure. I keep a print framed in my house. I love that it’s my best friend wearing the dress she wore when she married, I love that it’s a moment I was there to capture, a gift I was able to give. I think she looks every bit as beautiful in that photograph as she is in my heart.
So when my other best friend, Sam, got engaged I could hardly wait for their wedding. As a bridesmaid, I knew my capacity for shooting the wedding would be limited, but I really wanted some time to do some portraits of Sam and Ross, and of Sam alone, because I wanted that photograph. I wanted a photograph that was the Sam that I know and love, one that really reflected who she is to me, but also, one that reflected the bride that she was on that day. There are a couple images of Sam in this collection that I feel that way about, and one in particular that I will frame on the wall beside the portrait of Lauren as a bride.
I know how much I love these images of Sam and Ross, really truly love them because I really, truly love the people in them, and it reminds me of the value of every one of the photographs I take.
